Bryce Young

In 2021, Alabama sophomore Bryce Young became the second straight Crimson Tide player to claim the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious quarterback trophy.

On the year, Young completed 366 of 547 passes (66.9 percent) for 4,872 yards and 47 touchdowns against seven interceptions. He also had three rushing touchdowns.

Young ranked second nationally in passing touchdowns (47), passing yards (4,872) and total quarterback rating (88.9). In addition, he was third in the NCAA in points responsible for (308), seventh in passing efficiency (167.5) and eighth in total offense (334.8).

On the season, Young passed for more than 300 yards 10 times, including a school-record 559 yards (with five touchdown passes) against top-25 Arkansas. The native of Pasadena, Calif., also accounted for four or more touchdowns on seven occasions.

The Crimson Tide finished with a 12-2 record, which included a berth in the National Championship Game. In Alabama’s SEC Championship Game victory, he threw for an SEC title game-record 421 yards with three touchdowns, and added 40 rushing yards and a score.

Young became the third consecutive player from the Southeastern Conference to win the award, following former teammate Mac Jones (2020) and LSU’s Joe Burrow (2019). He is the first sophomore to take home the award since 2015.
