FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 27, 2026) – UCF senior Keyone Jenkins is the second straight Big 12 Conference quarterback to be named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week following a victory over the nation’s No. 2 team.
On Saturday, Jenkins helped the Knights to a 39-31 double-overtime upset win over second-ranked and previously unbeaten BYU. The product of Opa-Locka, Fla., finished the game 25-for-41 passing (.610) for 293 yards, three touchdowns and a 2-point conversion. On the ground, he added 11 carries for 35 yards and a score.
In the overtime periods, Jenkins had a pair of touchdown strikes as well as a 2-point pass. The victory was UCF’s first ever over a top-5 team in the Associated Press rankings. For his play, he also was named the Big 12’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week in week eight.
The other Great 8 quarterbacks in week seven were Cincinnati’s JC French IV, Sam Leavitt of LSU, Miami’s Darian Mensah, Nick Minicucci of Delaware, Toledo’s John Alan Richter, LaNorris Sellers of South Carolina and Memphis’ Marcus Stokes.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary season this year. The National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981.
Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.4 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
In 1938, O’Brien, who wore No. 8 as a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955.
