Texas A&M’s Reed Named Davey O’Brien QB of the Week

FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 18, 2025) – Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed has been announced as the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week for week 12 after leading the Aggies to a stunning 27-point comeback win over South Carolina on Saturday.

Reed finished the game with a career-best 439 passing yards as well as three touchdowns. In the second half, he was 16-for-20 for 298 yards and all three scores as Texas A&M turned a 30-3 halftime deficit into a 31-30 victory. Prior to Saturday, SEC teams had lost 286 straight games since 2004 when trailing by at least 27 points.

For the day, he was 22-for-39 passing while averaging 19.95 yards per completion. Reed also added 13 rushing yards to establish a new career best with 452 total yards. A semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, Reed was also named the Associated Press National Player of the Week.

The other quarterbacks on this week’s Great 8 list were Bear Bachmeier of BYU, Jax State’s Caden Creel, Dru DeShields of Kent State, Texas State’s Brad Jackson, Fernando Mendoza of Indiana, Arizona State’s Jeff Sims and Gunner Stockton of Georgia.

The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.4 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.

In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
