South Carolina’s Sellers Honored as National QB of the Week
FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 13, 2026) – South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers has been selected as the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week for the second time in his career after his performance in Saturday’s 38-19 upset win at No. 16 Florida. He previously was National Co-Quarterback of the Week during the 2024 season (Week 10).
Against the Gators, Sellers was 23-for-35 (.657) passing for 279 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 20 yards and a score. His five total touchdowns matched his single-game career high.
It was the Gamecocks’ third road victory over Florida all time and first since 2014. Additionally, South Carolina’s 38 points were the program’s most in a road win over an AP Top-25 team. Sellers was also honored as the SEC’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
The rest of the Great 8 quarterbacks in week six were Braden Atkinson of Oregon State, BYU’s Bear Bachmeier, Blake Baker of Louisiana Tech, Navy’s Jackson Gutierrez, Gio Lopez of Wake Forest, Georgia’s Gunner Stockton and Conner Weigman of Houston.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary season this year. The National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981.
Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.4 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
In 1938, O’Brien, who wore No. 8 as a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955.
