Georgia’s Stockton Named QB of the Week for Second Time
FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 21, 2025) – For the second time in 2025, Georgia junior Gunner Stockton has been named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week. He is the first player to be honored multiple times this season.
On Saturday, Stockton steered the Bulldogs to a 43-35 comeback win over No. 5 Ole. In the outing, he completed 26 of 31 passes (83.9 percent) for 289 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. On the ground, he carried 10 times for 59 yards and a score.
In the second half, the native of Tiger, Ga., was a perfect 12-for-12 through the air for 135 yards and three touchdowns. He finished the game with a 96.9 total quarterback rating and a 204.8 passing efficiency rating. Stockton was also named the Southeastern Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
Prior to Stockton, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe in 2024 (Week 3, Week 5) was the most recent two-time winner in the same season. Additionally, Dillon Gabriel (Oklahoma) and Michael Penix Jr. (Washington) accomplished the feat in 2023.
The other quarterbacks on this week’s Great 8 list were Alonza Barnett III (James Madison), Ryder Burton (UAB), Drew Mestemaker (North Texas), Miller Moss (Louisville), Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt), Julian Sayin (Ohio State) and Conner Weigman (Houston).
The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
