Georgia’s Stockton Nabs Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week Honor
FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 16, 2025) – Georgia junior Gunner Stockton has been named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week for his efforts in the Bulldogs’ 44-41 overtime victory at No. 15 Tennessee.
In the comeback win, Stockton connected on 23 of 31 passes (74.2 percent) for 304 yards and two touchdowns. He also contributed 38 rushing yards and a score. Trailing 38-30 with 2:32 remaining in regulation, he tossed a 28-yard touchdown pass on a fourth-and-6 and then connected on a 2-point conversion to tie the score.
Stockton finished the game with a 93.4 quarterback rating and a 177.9 pass efficiency rating. For his play, he also was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
The other quarterbacks on this week’s Great 8 list were Utah State’s Bryson Barnes, Colton Joseph of Old Dominion, Georgia Tech’s Haynes King, Behren Morton of Texas Tech, Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed, Jake Retzlaff of Tulane and Alabama’s Ty Simpson.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
