Castellanos Tabbed Davey O’Brien National QB of the Week
FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 3, 2025) – Florida State senior Tommy Castellanos has earned his first career Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week Award following his performance in the Seminoles’ 31-17 upset victory over No. 8 Alabama on Saturday.
In his Florida State debut, Castellanos totaled 230 yards of offense and scored a rushing touchdown. Through the air, he was 9 for 14 (64.3 percent) for 152 yards. He also rushed for a game-high 78 yards on 14 carries (4.9 average) and a 9-yard score.
The native of Waycross, Ga., did not commit a turnover and became the second player to account for at least 150 passing yards and 75 rushing yards in a non-conference game against Alabama in the last 20 seasons, joining Davey O’Brien Award winner Kyler Murray in the 2018 Orange Bowl.
The other quarterbacks on this week’s Great 8 list were Auburn’s Jackson Arnold, Carson Beck of Miami, USF’s Byrum Brown, Devon Dampier of Utah, LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, Julian Sayin of Ohio State and App State’s AJ Swann.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
