Cal’s Sagapolutele Tabbed Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week
FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 11, 2025) – California true freshman Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has been voted the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week for week 11 after leading the Bears to a 29-26 overtime win at No. 15 Louisville on Saturday.
Sagapolutele connected on 30 of 47 passes (63.8 percent) for 323 yards and two touchdowns. In the process, he set career single-game bests in completions and yardage. His 3-yard, fourth-down touchdown strike in overtime gave the Bears the upset victory.
For his play, Sagapolutele was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week and Quarterback of the Week. He is the second straight player from the ACC to win the National QB of the Week accolade from the Davey O’Brien Foundation.
The other quarterbacks on this week’s Great 8 list were Micah Alejado of Hawaii, USF’s Byrum Brown, Joe Fagnano of UConn, USC’s Jayden Maiava, Diego Pavia of Vanderbilt, Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed and Jake Retzlaff of Tulane.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.4 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
