Baylor’s Robertson Named National QB of the Week

FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 9, 2025) – Baylor senior Sawyer Robertson has garnered Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week plaudits following his performance in the Bears’ 48-45 double-overtime upset at No. 17 SMU.

Robertson directed the Bears back from a 14-point, fourth-quarter deficit to finish the afternoon 34-for-50 passing (68.0 percent) for 440 yards and four touchdowns. Two of his touchdown tosses came in the final 5 ½ minutes of regulation. Robertson also added 20 yards on the ground on six carries, and finished the game with a 91.8 quarterback rating.

For his play, he also was named the Associated Press National Offensive Player of the Week and the Big 12 Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Dating back to last season, Robertson has passed for more than 400 yards in three consecutive games.

The other quarterbacks on this week’s Great 8 list were Byrum Brown of USF, Michigan State’s Aidan Chiles, Anthony Colandrea of UNLV, Army West Point’s Cale Hellums, John Mateer of Oklahoma, Missouri’s Beau Pribula and Blake Shapen of Mississippi State.

The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.

In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
