Alabama’s Simpson Grabs Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week Honor

FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 30, 2025) – Alabama junior Ty Simpson has been named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week for his play in the Crimson Tide’s 24-21 road win over No. 5 Georgia on Saturday.

In the outing, Simpson connected on 24 of 38 passes (63.2 percent) for 276 yards. He accounted for all three Alabama touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) and helped the Tide amass 397 yards of total offense and 25 first downs against the Bulldogs’ stout defense.

Simpson finished with a total quarterback rating of 90.1. He also was named the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

The other quarterbacks on this week’s Great 8 list, which was upgraded to 16 players by virtue of a “Davey Double,” were Micah Alejado (Hawaii), Luke Altmyer (Illinois), CJ Carr (Notre Dame), Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss), Tucker Gleason (Toledo), Ben Gulbranson (Stanford), Haynes King (Georgia Tech), Sam Leavitt (Arizona State), Brendon Lewis (Memphis), Dante Moore (Oregon), Chandler Morris (Virginia), Miller Moss (Louisville), Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt), Sawyer Robertson (Baylor) and Lunch Winfield (Louisiana).

The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.

In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
